How to choose the right one
-
Check total weight capacity
You must verify the maximum user weight the chair supports. The VOCIC U12 is rated for heavier users, making it suitable for those who need extra stability and durability. In contrast, the U42 has a lower limit of 242 pounds. This specification is critical for safety. If you exceed the stated capacity, the frame may fail. Always compare the user weight limit against your own body weight. Choose the model with the highest capacity if you are near the upper limit of a lighter chair.
-
Compare frame weight
The weight of the chair itself determines how easy it is to lift into a vehicle. The U42 weighs just 20.5 pounds, which is exceptionally light for manual transport. This makes it ideal for caregivers or users who lift the chair frequently. The U12 is slightly heavier at 28 pounds. While still portable, it requires more effort to move. If you prioritize minimal effort when loading the chair, select the model with the lowest weight specification. Heavier frames often offer more robust construction.
-
Measure folded dimensions
You need to ensure the chair fits in your car trunk or storage space. The U42 measures 20.9 inches in length when folded. This compact size allows it to fit into smaller vehicles. The U12 also folds but may have different dimensions. Check the length, width, and height specifications before purchasing. If you have a small sedan, the smaller footprint of the U42 is advantageous. Always measure your available storage space before deciding on a model.
-
Select wheel size
Wheel size affects maneuverability and ride comfort. The U12 features 12-inch wheels, which provide a smoother ride over uneven surfaces. Larger wheels roll over bumps more easily than smaller ones. The U42 has a different wheel configuration. Consider where you will use the chair most often. If you travel on rough terrain, larger wheels are better. For smooth indoor floors, smaller wheels may suffice. Match the wheel size to your primary environment for the best experience.
-
Verify folding mechanism
A folding design is essential for portability. Both the U12 and U42 feature folding frames. This allows you to collapse the chair for storage. Check if the folding mechanism is simple to operate. You should be able to fold and unfold it with one hand if possible. A reliable hinge ensures longevity. Look for models that fold compactly to save space. This feature is vital if you transport the chair daily. Ensure the lock engages securely when unfolded for safety.
