How to choose the right ramp
-
Check step height range
You must match the ramp length to your step height. The Fachnuo 5ft Aluminum Travel Ramp works for steps between 5 and 15 inches. A longer ramp reduces the slope angle, making it easier to climb. If your steps are higher, a shorter ramp will be too steep. Check the listed size range for each model. Ensure the ramp covers your specific step height without exceeding the recommended limit. This ensures safe and manageable ascent and descent angles.
-
Verify weight capacity
Weight capacity is critical for safety. The 3ft Silver Ramp supports up to 2000 pounds. This makes it suitable for heavy wheelchairs or power chairs. The 5ft model does not list a specific capacity in the provided data. You should assume standard limits for aluminum ramps if not specified. Always compare your device weight against the ramp rating. Exceeding the limit can damage the ramp or cause injury. Choose the higher-capacity model if you use a heavy mobility device.
-
Measure wheelchair width
The ramp width must accommodate your wheelchair wheels. The 5ft ramp is 29 inches wide. This fits standard wheelchairs and moderate step heights. The 3ft ramp is 36.7 inches wide. This offers more room for wider devices. Measure your wheelchair width before buying. Ensure there is enough clearance on both sides. A tight fit increases the risk of tipping. Compare your device width with the ramp specifications. Select the wider model if your wheelchair is broad.
-
Assess ramp weight
Ramp weight affects portability. The 5ft ramp weighs 29.9 pounds. This is manageable for most users to carry. The 3ft ramp weighs 45 pounds. This is heavier despite being shorter. Consider how often you will move the ramp. If you need to lift it into a car, lighter is better. The 5ft model is easier to transport. The 3ft model may require two people or a dolly. Check the weight spec to ensure you can handle it.
-
Consider side safety features
Side features prevent wheels from slipping off. The 5ft ramp is noted for enhanced side safety. This is important for users with balance issues. The 3ft ramp includes handrails. Handrails provide stability for users pushing or riding. Decide if you need handrails or just side edges. Handrails add weight and bulk. Side edges are lighter but offer less support. Match the feature to your mobility needs. Review the attributes list for each model to see what is included.
